Good Evening Everyone,
By writing the date I see we are in the middle of July already. The summer is moving along rapidly.
Today was a lovely, warm, sunny day. The laundry that was hung outside on the clothesline dried quickly. It is a pleasure to bring clean, fresh scented clothes in and have it all put away in short order.
The garden is doing well. Green beans are picked and canned. Sweet corn in in tassels, but the early variety is ready to eat. Yummy! It is easy to gather stuff to fix a salad, lettuce, cucumbers, onion, carrots, cabbage, etc. Radish don’t do well in this heat. I occasionally find a few stalks asparagus among the grown plants. The garlic is ready to pull and lay out to dry, and the onions will get taken out yet this month. Work, work, work. But it’s so much fun! The zucchini plant is wilting. I guess a beetle or bug has been busy at the root.
I sliced part of the first yellow tomato and drizzled it with Caeser salad dressing. Delicious!
The Day Lilies are in full bloom and create a splash of color.
Now is the time for picnics. Our church picnic is planned for July 18th.
Events at Mt. Hope include:
- Rainbow of Hope benefit sale: July 25-26
- Hillside leather sale: July 30-31
- Holmes County Steam and Engine show: July 31- Aug 2
- Sportsman for Humanity: Aug 9
- Whitetail Deer Farmers: Aug 14-15
- The Save & Serve thrift store in Millersburg is celebrating 50 years this week: July 14-19
- Air works auctions: July 22 and July 29
It is interesting to watch when birds bring their babies to the feeder. A baby Oriole is feeding on the jelly, and it looks like the flies enjoy the jelly also.
“I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation but be of good courage, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Have a good summer,
Sovilla
